An early start as we have to get back to the lovely Miracle Theatre for a costume fitting. Patrick is driving down from London this morning, as he couldn't come yesterday, and meet us there.
The Miracle Theatre is still freezing and it's almost more than we can bear to take off our lovely warm jeans and fleeces to put on the grubby thin cotton skirts and shirts that are to be our villagers' costumes. We also get kitted out with some very menacing-looking implements that are supposed to be the tools we'll use to attack the ships. We're very glad when the fitting ends and we can all get our nice warm clothes back on.
David, the director, and his assistant, Mark, take us for a walk in Redruth to find somewhere for lunch. Redruth used to be a big centre for the tin mining industry, which is evident in some very grand Victorian buildings in the town centre. The modern-day town is somewhat depressed and run-down however. We find a smoky pub at the top of the high street for lunch. The food is surprisingly good.
We head back to the Miracle for another chorus rehearsal with all members of the Duchy who are available on a Friday afternoon. Thanks to our rehearsals in London, we are picking everything up very quickly and the rehearsal ends quite early.
In the evening we head out to the pub on Perranporth beach - the Watering Hole. Once the sun has gone in it gets extremely cold, but fortunately, it is only stumbling distance away.
We are taking it in turns to cook while we are in Cornwall and it is Sarah's turn tonight - Thai green chicken curry with rice and brownies and ice cream for dessert. There is also quite a lot of wine and we finish up the port.......
We fully intended to sit in the living room, making civilised conversation before retiring for an early night, but unfortunately, we thought that a few games would liven things up. First up was a raucous match of 'Who's In the Bag' between the Streatham team(Duncan, Suzi and both Helens) and the Rest of the World (Ben, Sarah, Patrick and Jan). Patrick confuses everyone with Newt Gingrich and somehow both 'Jan's mum' and 'Phil the tuba player' make it into the bag as famous people.
All might still have been well if Helen P hadn't come up with another game afterwards. Not sure who'll be reading this blog, so we'll draw a veil over the details. However, we name it 'Coin my Chuff' and by the end of the evening it has its own theme tune in four part harmony.........
