Grosvenor Light Opera Company

Gilbert and Sullivan - never knowingly undersung!

We all sleep in until VERY late.

And then there’s just a lot of sitting around as we’ve all been crippled by the Cereal Packet game and are unable to walk. Helen P tunes in especially to watch David Walliams on ‘This Morning’.

We decide to check out Truro in the afternoon. It takes a long time to get out of the house - walking seems close to impossible - and both Jan and Helen C decide that a bit of shut-eye would be a better option.

It’s a drizzly sort of day and Truro is very quiet. We do a bit of shopping and admire the production photographs in the theatre foyer. A few of us take a look at the cathedral in the centre of town. The cathedral wasn’t built until the late Victorian age, when the Church of England started to worry about the influence of Wesleyan Methodism in this part of the world, but has been built in the medieval Gothic style.

We meet up again at 5.30pm in Pizza Express. We had intended to go to a local restaurant that was recommended to us, but even at 5.30pm it’s fully booked. We don’t have the energy or time to explore alternative options so plump for Pizza Express. We’re joined by Helen P’s boyfriend, David, who has just arrived in Truro on the train from London to see tonight’s performance.

We all have soft drinks with our pizzas.

We troop over to the theatre to prepare for the evening’s performance. We perk up a bit now that our appearance on stage is imminent. We hold our usual warm-up in the upstairs dressing room and attract a few more Duchy members who are intrigued by the strange noises we’re making.

The show passes off smoothly as before, with standing ovations from the audience. Sitting still during the whole of Act 2 is still a challenge, but we’re developing coping strategies – the trick is to have more than one activity to distract yourself with. David has asked Duncan to eat parsnips on stage, but he, Ben and Patrick have taken to whittling them instead. Duncan’s carving of an armadillo is outstanding.

Afterwards, we retire again to the Kasbar for a post-mortem drink. Meriel has also been to see the show this evening with her mother and is very impressed. She tells us that her mother was easily able to pick out the Grosvenor performers from the chorus.

We head back to Perranporth for a (comparatively) early night.
